U-Kiss made their Japanese debut in December. This interview was conducted during the hot summer weather in September. The seven members were divided into three groups. We asked them to talk to us about “group love” [a love / special relationship that one can only make in a group or team], “love of fans” and “love of a man/woman”.

You two get along together well, but your approach to girls is the exact opposite?

Hoon : First, we will try to talk about “group love”. Among U-Kiss, we can feel strong agreement and support between the members, and at what moment can we feel it the most? For me, it is during rehearsals with all the group members. When we work hard, when we repeat our choreography, we can really feel it.

AJ : As for me, it is when we dance together on stage. We can show it to everyone. And also, lastly, this bond is visible when we record TV shows. And can we say that we are still evolving as a group?

Hoon : Except Soohyun and Dongho, all of U-Kiss is the same age, and we all take care of each other. Each member has his difficult times, and moments where he isolates himself. There are also moments without any particular reason, when he is very attentive and helpful. When one of us has a problem, we know just from seeing the expression on his face. And in those certain moments, we will sit down beside him without saying a word, or we will ask, “did something happen?”, or simply we will just talk to him. We do this naturally for one another.

AJ : Yes, we take care of each other in different ways. Finally, we care more for each other than ourselves; there is a true affection among us.

Hoon : Next, let’s talk about “love of our fans”. I really like shaking hands with my fans. We don’t have the opportunity to do this during our performances… But, rather than shaking our fan’s hands who are directly right in front of us, I prefer to clearly see the faces and eyes of each fan. I like to feel little by little than I am becoming closer with my fans! I feel that a personal link is created with each one of them.

AJ : For me, it is when we are on stage and our fans chant for us all together in unison. That really

makes me happy. I realize then that U-kiss exists thanks to the fans.

Hoon : Exactly! U-kiss can live thanks to the fans. We do our best everyday to show beautiful things to our fans, in everything that we do, we do in thinking about our fans.

AJ : Everything we do, we do it for our fans.

Hoon : Now, let’s go on to “love of a man/woman”. Let’s try to first describe the type of girl that we like. I am the type that doesn’t embrace a girl in my arms unless I really like her. When I was young, I liked cute girls. But when I like a girl, I can’t address her directly. I cannot get myself to say to her “I love you” because it’s embarrassing… But once we have passed a certain stage, I am really capable of doing everything for her.

AJ : I like intelligent girls. I am the straightforward type, I don’t hesitate to approach the girl I like directly.

Hoon : Strangely, I would have thought the opposite. For me, I am the type to move slowly, to look for and to know her feelings before I engage myself…

AJ : Even if I don’t know her feelings (towards me), I follow my feelings. With the other members of U-Kiss of the same age, we talk a lot about love.

Hoon : That’s true. Us two are the ones who give the most advice. For example, “what do we have to offer her?” we talk a lot about this subject.

AJ : I want to give her everything that she wants. The most important, is that it comes from (my) heart.

Hoon : I want to sing on stage for her. And as I sing, since what I can do best is sing, I want to sing her a song that will touch her to the point where she will have tears in her eyes. At then, I’d play her some pieces on the piano and the guitar…

AJ : All that sounds expensive.

Hoon : I will do my best.

AJ : I really like as well creating all sorts of things. Good food, or songs, or even cakes… I’d like to offer her things that I made with my own hands, I’d like to present these to her at the first opportunity.

Hoon : And the most romantic between all of us is Kiseop.

AJ : Agreed. Kiseop is a genius on this subject..

Hoon : I’ll start thinking now about what I could offer to the girl I like in the future.

Kiseop and Dongho don’t like horror films and Kevin cries easily.

Kevin : Let’s start with the “group love”. When we are all together on stage, the support and love among U-kiss is very present. I am really grateful to the other members for all the help they give me.

Kiseop : For me, actually it is when we watch movies all together at the dorm. It’s because we seem like a real family.

Kevin : We like all action movies. Sometimes, we watch horror movies as well…

Dongho : When the others watch horror movies, Kiseop and I go to bed first. It’s scary, so I don’t want to stay and watch.

Kevin : We are a family in these moments, and also when we prepare and share our meals.

Dongho : It’s Eli who is the most talented at cooking among us, and it is he who makes us food.

Kiseop : He is great at making pasta, kimchi stew, and his dishes made with beef are the best!

Dongho : In the morning, I can’t wake myself up. The other members always come to wake me. It’s

in these moments when I truly feel their love.

Kevin : Because of Dongho, we are always tired in the morning. Our manager has given us a curfew, we must all be in bed before 1AM, but even after curfew, Dongho hides to go play.

Kiseop : Yeah, and because he stays up late, he can’t get up in the mornings.

Dongho : ……Hmm, don’t you think we’ve become good at Japanese ?

Kevin : That has nothing to do with this.

Kiseop : Yes, our level has improved. The next theme is “love of the fans”. I am happy when the fans make efforts to understand us when we speak Japanese. And when I see fans with tears in their eyes overwhelmed with emotion, it warms my heart.

Kevin : I am happy when the fans sing together in unison. It touches me to see them cry and I end up crying too.

Dongho : For me, it is the encounters with the fans. We can see them really closely and that makes me happy. Sometimes, we can even chat a little with them.

Kevin : The fans are our life !

Kiseop : Yes, and now over to the last topic, “love of a man/woman”. I like cute girls. And also girls who have lots of charm!

Kevin : I like pure girls who smile and laugh a lot.

Dongho : I like both cute and beautiful girls. And also those who listen well. However, I am absolutely incapable of saying “I love you” face-to-face.

Kevin : Ah really ?! That’s true ?

Dongho : It’s embarrassing… So I start by being her friend and little by little I get closer to her.

Kevin : Neither can I, I can’t say it (“I love you”) to her face.

Dongho : You’re not like that, huh Kiseop ?

Kiseop : Indeed, I’m not like that at all.

Dongho/Kevin : Haha…

Kiseop :I will tell her directly, “go out with me!”

Kevin : Oh ! Kiseop really knows what to do to make a girl happy. He is a master in love!

Dongho : This is a real man, this is our god!

Kiseop : (embarrassed laugh)

Dongho :We talk a lot about love, but since we are so busy, we don’t have time for stories of love…

Kiseop : If I could have a girlfriend, I would take her on a trip.

Kevin :I would sing for her. Just her.

Kiseop : They call that karaoke, no ?

Kevin : Karaoke~~ ?! That’s not romantic at all !

Dongho : If I could have a girlfriend, I wish I could speak out about it. If we have a secret relationship, we can’t go out in public. And I prefer to enjoy it and have fun.

Soohyun and Eli, our two romantics who have lots of wishes !

Soohyun : We will start with “group love”. We are like a family, so it is necessary that there is much love among us. We encourage, we give advice, there is a real solidarity.

Eli : And also, before gong on stage, when we join hands and shout “fighting!!!” all together. If one of us has a problem, he can confide in us and we can all together try to help him find solutions, this is another good aspect of U-Kiss.

Soohyun : We have no pre-established rules, however, we are careful to always be respectful, this is fundamental. As well, we ensure each other, we move forward together and become more successful artists. We have all become more like adults. I am the leader, and before I say anything, the other members already thought about the question I would ask.

Eli : We always do everything with enthusiasm.

Soohyun : Next is “the love of fans”. What I enjoy the most, is when I can see fans from the stage. In facing them, their feelings converge to us. Especially when we sing “0330”, we feel that it really touches the hearts of the fans and it makes me so happy. It’s as if our hearts are all connected.

Eli : Me, I like fan-service, like throwing my towel and my water bottle in the crowd. On stage we dance and sing, so we need to drink often and also wipe our sweat. As for fans, it is the same, they encourage us a lot and need to cool off too.

Soohyun : Hey, hey, do you know what the most important part of the human body is?

Eli : Um, the heart ?

Soohyun : Exactly. The fans are our heart, and their existence is precious to us. If the fans were not there, we would not be here any longer. We can only live thanks to their love.

Eli : Since Soohyun said that the fans are our heart, I will say that they are our oxygen. The fans are the essence of U-Kiss. Without the fans we would not sing, we would not dance. We would not do any TV shows or any of our activities.

Soohyun : Absolutely. Okay finally let’s talk about “love of a man/woman”. Eli, what kind of girl do you like?

Eli : Hmm. I like girls who are sweet and nice. And also tall, with big eyes, and a cute smile. And also girls who are a bit sexy.

Soohyun : I like girls who are respectful and very polite. Respect is essential. And also, I love girls who have pretty eyes and a cute smile. I prefer pure girls more than sexy girls.

Eli : Would you confront her head on? Me, I can’t, it’s too embarrassing…

Soohyun : Yes, I will directly go to see her. I would like to know everything about her and for her to know everything about me.

Eli : We are very busy though, so we do not have time for romance…

Soohyun : If I could have a girlfriend, I would love to offer her many things. I would write her a unique one-of-a-kind ballad. And we could have matching rings! And matching bags and matching cell phones! Everything in pairs! And then we would spend Christmas together. I would do lots of things !

Eli : I would like to travel with her. We would go to South Africa or a place very far away, I haven’t really decided where yet, but I want to travel with her. I would make a lot of effort to increase our love. In fact, it doesn’t really matter what we do together, everything will be okay for me as long as we are together.

Soohyun : You seem to love giving gifts to your girlfriend.

Eli : Yeah. Even if we just wander around, I want to buy her something…

Soohyun : We really are two great romantics.

――It’s been about 2 months since your debut, have you adapted to Japan?
[Everyone] Not at all!

[Hoon] Since we’re too busy, we can’t go play around.

[Soohyun] But I went to Don Quijote. There are many things there, so it’s interesting.

[Kevin] It’s nice that shops are open for 24 hours. I buy food often.

[Hoon] There are things for lifestyle also. Things like pillows and hangers.

[Soohyun] And rollers (laughs). I’m just playing around, for everyone to have fun.

――But is it bad when the fans see you?

[Hoon] No, (the fans) have not found us yet.

――――So then, this Spring which fashion do you want to try?

[Hoon] I’ll be naked from the waist up (laughs)! I’ll show my muscles.

――Eeh?

[Hoon} I’m lying (laughs). In spring we want to be warm, and in summer we want to be cool. The colors black and white together are chic. I also want to try fancy designed silver accessories.

[Kiseop] I also like monotone. I want to dress in jeans and a white shirt with a jacket, to give it a simple feel. The point is to find leather work boots that will suit you.

[Kevin] I’m similar to Kiseop, I like to dress in T-shirts and jeans. Since it’s spring, I want to wear a nice blue shirt, and I want to wear a fedora or cute straw hats.

[Soohyun] I also think a hat is one of the items you’d want to wear in the spring. I think you could match a trench coat and skinny jeans for a cool appearance.

[Eli] I like simple clothes like jeans with a T-shirt, and you can accent with a cool belt and accessories. More recently, I want a silver metal watch.

[AJ] I’m addicted to ONE PIECE, so I want to dress like Luffy. For the whole spring, blue toned thin and long shirts, short pants, and slip-on (shoes) with no socks. I want to wear a straw hat to feel cool.

――Thank you. “Forbidden Love” is your new song. What was your impression when you first heard it?

[Soohyun] I think it’s a strong and sexy image. The dance and facial expressions have a sexy appeal to them.

[Eli] During the chorus part you wave your body, it’s a distinctive dance.

[Kiseop] Since it was the first time I did a sexy dance, I was embarrassed at first.

[Dongho] It was fun simply because of the fast beat and dance. The lyrics included a lot of nuance and fresh content, once you knew (the lyrics), didn’t the meaning become more interesting?

――The lyrics of “Forbidden Love” have shocking content. Would you desire such a romance?

[Soohyun] The song is cool, but actually, since this kind of love is popular, it’s okay.

[Hoon] But there’s some interest in it…… isn’t there a thrill?

[Eli] No, at first that love is thrilling, but I think over time it becomes painful. Well after all, normal love is the best kind of love.

――Among the members, who’s dangerous to fall in love with?

[Hoon] I think Kevin.

[AJ] I also think Kevin.

[Hoon] Because he’s very pure, all the girls would like him.

[Kevin] I also think so. But if she’s a bad girl, it’s not good. (laughs).

[Hoon] Soohyun is also dangerous. Because he’s a strong man, he’ll riskily pour out his powerful affections.

[Soohyun] Embarrassing! I don’t do that (laughs).

―― (laughs). The new song is released at the same time as the 1st album. What are the contents?

[Soohyun] This time our theme is to appeal with diverse music. Our debut song “Tick Tack” and now “Forbidden Love” show our strong and sexy side, while other songs show a gentle yet manly romanticist side. Other than dance, there are also vocal songs, so I think that people can enjoy a variety of our work.

――Do you have a favorite song in particular that you’d recommend?

[Kiseop] The album’s title song, “A Shared Dream”. I really like ballads, and the song along with the dance will give you a relaxed feeling.

[Hoon] Also for this song’s music video, Kevin dove into water.

[Kevin] That shot was hard! I was underwater from 3 o’clock in the morning through most of the day.

[Eli] I recommend “Show Me Your Smile”. Because it’s a very bright and fun song, people who are listening together will liven up. I want to sing it at a concert soon.

――You’ve also recorded Japanese versions of some of your Korean songs. Is it good in Japanese? Is there something good within the Japanese (of the song)?

[Soohyun] The Korean song is a lot more strong and aggressive, but the Japanese suits it as well. Japanese has a strong pronunciation and a lot of accent for each word, and the melody fits the beat. Although it’s easier to sing in Korean, to properly understand the meaning in Japanese, we put emotion into our singing. By all means, I want the Japanese fans to listen to the Japanese version.

[Kiseop] This time, I want not only the strong beats to be heard, but also the ballads on the album to show the soft and gentle side of U-KISS.

――By the way, everyone’s personal strength is being strong? Being friendly?

[Hoon] (We) have either of those but…… anyway, everyone is genuine?

[Soohyun] The members are really rambunctious with each other. Our presence with each other is good (laughs).

Rookie group B.A.P’s Jongup, “Although my shoe fell off during the showcase, our performance was a hit!”

The one member who seemed shy at the mention of an interview, Jongup the innocent boy who seemed unfamiliar and shy about interviewing while the other members were answering fluently. He was the member we were able to sense his other charms outside of his strong image on stage.

When we asked him about how he felt about his debut, Jongup replied shortly “I’m really happy” with a tint of laughter following afterwards. Their marketing manager who sat beside him said, “He tends to get shy a lot~” in which Jongup silently smiled brightly as his response. However, he just tends to be shy but he knows how to speak about his thoughts.

He was in a dance club in middle school and since then, he’s raised his dreams of becoming a singer. “Going down that path, I went to competitions and I found myself enjoying the stage slowly. My greed for dancing grew bit by bit and in midst of it all, I was recruited on the streets and now I’m here today making my debut.” In seeing his eyes sparkle at the talk about dancing, the shy image we saw just before vanished.

Unlike other idols that made their debut recently, B.A.P has well developed, extravagant synchronization and a powerful dance, topping it off with their strengthening and appealing vocals, causing up quite a storm in the music industry. In order to maintain this perfection, they must have had shed blood for sweat, but wouldn’t this have been difficult for the still young boy?

“If it’s difficult, it’s difficult but I was truly happy. Practicing altogether till late in the night until we fall asleep exhausted, although that may have worn us out physically, I was happy. I’m very thankful for being able to even do what I want to do.” Although he’s young, seeing himself speak maturely shows a hidden charisma we felt from him.

On January 28th, B.A.P opened their first showcase at the Seoul Jangchung Stadium and 3,000 seats were filled on this day, making B.A.P realize their popularity. However, there was a small episode on this day of the performance that seemed almost too perfect.

“My shoe fell off during the performance. You don’t know how shocked I was but I kept dancing as if nothing was wrong and thankfully the performance was successful. Sigh, I was shocked for a moment and you don’t know how relieved I was.” Because he was too nervous at the time and reflecting over his mistake, he wants to show an even more perfected performance in the future.

What makes B.A.P different amongst the other plethora of idols? When asked this question, Jongup replied that is was their masculinity. “Lately there are a lot of male idols who are cute or pretty, but we differ from other groups with our masculine charms. Even our title song is very rough and masculine. I really like the dance also and I’m trying to be more masculine myself.”

B.A.P’s photo shoot and interview that ended past 12AM, it was very fun for us. The members scarily ate away their hunger during the snacks provided even if the time was late. Also, they’d dance if fun music was played and joke around with one another, maintaining the comfortable and fun atmosphere of the photo shoot.

“The relationships between the members are really well. Rather than saying someone is specifically close to another, we all depend on and take care of one another. Another charm of B.A.P is our close friendship.” Jongup is a very innocent-minded person who knows how to always feel gratuity to his members for being with him.

When asked about his ideal, he said that it’s someone who he “likes the moment I see them.” That was the answer. “I really like someone who I see and exchange that vibe with them. Ideals are just ideals~” When asked to pick a celebrity close to his ideal, he thought for a long while but he couldn’t think of one so Jongup just smiled. Seeing Jongup act his age of a young and fresh 18 year old was cute.

B.A.P who wants to show a lot more, and also Jongup. We hope that his wish of their name being known widely in 2012 comes true as the results follow suit with how much they’ve endured. We conclude the interview with B.A.P who is a good group. We really think B.A.P will rise!

[INTERVIEW] Rookie Group B.A.P’s Daehyun. “The joy I felt at our first showcase, I will never forget”

The charismatic group B.A.P doesn’t seem like a rookie group and has gained enormous popularity with their debut. With powerful choreography and compelling vocals, each of the six’s members appeals were received in the music industry at one point.

Attempting to conquer the music industry that is overfilling with a number of idols, B.A.P is really swamped with their busy schedule. Probably exhausted from having had schedules since the morning, but instead the six members came into the studio with an energetic greeting.

Among them, not looking too young and with an appealing dark voice, we met the team’s vocal Daehyun. Calm throughout the interview and also speaking coherently, he seemed more thoughtful and careful than his peers.

“I heard you go by “Busan wonbin?” When the interviewr asked this jokingly, he met eyes with fellow member Youngjae, and made a little embarassed sound. The 20 year old gave an innocent impression.

In the year 2012, he came of age and at the same time fufilled his dream of debuting. “Truthfully, I don’t mind. Everyday goes by too fast. Even the showcase seemed like it passed by hectically as well. But we’ve worked really hard up to this point and because of the amount of people cheering us on and enjoying it I feel as if we successfully finished. I’m happy everyday now.”

He says his dream of becoming a singer grew when he was younger while watching DBSK seniors. “I liked singing and dancing. Now that I’m able to do what I enjoy doing I think I’m a very happy person” he tells us as we feel his deliberation and a sense of calm.

Life of being in the entertainment industry must be different from those of peers of the same age, having to give up as much as you can to get a lot out of it. “Since I’ve become so busy it’s become hard to contact people. It’s regretful that I’ve become distant with my friends” having to spend close to 10 hours a day practicing and living in a dorm, Daehyun feels apologetic to his friends.

“But in order to do what I really enjoy and want to do, I think that this is the part that I have to really endure. The challenges that come with reaching your own goals and dreams is the part you have to face” he tells us like an adult.

B.A.P are living in a dorm. With 6 men living together, we thought there would be no day that is peaceful and quiet. “Everday seems like a variety show (laughs)” Daehyun laughs jokingly as he gives a thumbs up. “I wake up earliest and wake up the other memebers. The memebrs are in a tired state and they talk in their sleep or talk to each other in their sleep. Especially maknae Zelo is really cute and funny (laughs). But there’s so much more than that. There’s really not a day that is not enjoyable (laughs).”

Daehyun feels that together the members give him great willpower and strength. He always looks determined but we wondered if could there have been hard times while practicing up to now. “I think right now might be the hardest time. We became so busy our practice time has been really reduced. So we should be embracing ourselves more. To not make mistakes and perform perfectly practice is very important but we really don’t have time, so we try hard to cheer and strengthen each other on.”

The sincere answers of each of the BAP members definately matched their popularity and the love they were receiving felt like a natural result.

Now that he is twenty years of age, the age of wanting to date, who could be his idela woman? “Like Shin SaimDang, I like women with sweet images. Speaking of dating, the images of Ha Jiwon-shi or Lee Jia-shi would be it… but it’s tough to express in words (laughs)” Daehyun avoids answering the interviewer’s inquiry if Ha Jiwon-shi or Lee Jia-shi’s sexy and charismatic images is his ideal. The 20 year old seemed like the most mature member.

He says he’ll never forget the feeling he had seeing the packed audience of their Showcase. With expressing his hopes that they will futher develop their appearance, we concluded our interview. Like what we could feel in their gazes, BAP hopes 2012 will contain more of their music for their fans. We look forward to seeing them succeeding.

[INTERVIEW] Rookie Group B.A.P’s Youngjae. “The sweet love of the fans is my life’s driving force”

“Hello, my name is Youngjae” The charming voice of Youngjae. Our first impression was “his voice is so nice!”. It was hard to believe that he is 20, with his mature appearance, and he seemed like quite an alright person.
Youngjae, a triple threath with his dancing, singing, and appearance, is rookie idol group B.A.P’s vocals. B.A.P’s debut received much love and is recognized as the most notable rookie this year. In the center is Youngjae. He has the history of placing first at JYP auditions, one of our country’s top three agencies.
“I was spending my trainee days at JYP. By chance I met the B.A.P members. I think it was a really good opportunity for me. I met such great memebrs and even debuted like this (laughs)” Youngjae says even after the debut, it still feels like a dream. ”everyday I feel like I’m dreaming. When will I wake up from this dream? (laughs) It doesn’t feel like reality yet, if I became a singer, if that’s me that’s on television everything is like a dream” He laughs and looks truly happy and I laughed along with him.
Youngjae says that while training, he and Daehyun who are the same age became very close. He says as they are the same age, they could reply on each other and get along comfortably. Truthfully, during Daehyun’s interview, the two often made eye contact and smiled and were joking with each other, appearing very close.
He was a child who loved to sing since he was little. As a result, he naturally acquired the dream to become a singer. And was happy in the time he spent preparing to be a singer. But before debuting, there were also hard times.
“It was the most difficult while recording the title track “Warroir”. It was different from the music I was thinking of. So I was in a slump trying to express feelings through it. Yongguk hyung and Daehyun-ee beside me really gave me strength. I was really thankful.” Doing all their activities together the members feel as if they are a family now. When going through a tough time, the members give him the greatest strength, he says with a smile.
Youngjae knew what he had to give up in order to become a singer. “Of course walking along the streets freely with my friends, or dating, college life and living an ordinary life I knew I had to give up. It is a bit saddening but I think it’s alright if you gain as much as you lose. But being able to sing the songs I love I am truly happy.” He says this in a way that we could tell he sincerely loved music.
He says his dream is to create music for his fans to listen to in the future. Sincerely communicating with fans through music is his goal as a signer, he firmly said. He is still a rookie that has just started but is a singer with clear goals and dreams.
What kind of woman does find attractive? We asked him his ideal woman. “Honestly I don’t have a set ideal type in mind. I like the character played by Kang Sora-shi in the recent film ”Sunny”. After I watched the movie for a period of time I looked up Kang Sora-shii (laughs)” Youngjae seems to like distinct and dignified styles (?).
Finding it still fascinating to see fans who come to to deliver citron tea directly and to cheer for him, and so thankful for them, is the pure twenty year old boy Youngjae.
“I’m given strength thanks to the fans who came to our performances to cheer for us and am reminded that I must try my hardest. I’m so thankful, please give us lots of love. In turn I’ll work a harder.”
As they move forward, BAP’s goal is to create good music for people to listen to. With the story of how his future hope is to see the day his music will shake the hearts of his fans, we concluded our interview with Youngjae.

[INTERVIEW] Rookie group B.A.P’s Zelo “Even if I can’t date, the love from our fans is sufficient”

A boy with a face that could have been the main character from an innocent anime approached. With yellow wavy hair, a pale face and big eyes I was reminded of a young prince. The cutest one from the new group B.A.P, it is maknae Zelo.
At their fancafe or music shows, when their fans recognize and cheer B.A.P on, he truly feels that they are loved. “Sometimes I check out the posts that fans put on blogs. Through this I can learn what the fans really liked in which aspect and because I am able to feel the hearts of our fans, I am truly happy.”
We wondered if the very young maknae would rather be able to allowed to play (T/N: as in fool around). “The aspect of school life and meeting with friends is something I have to give up. In order to achieve my dreams, I think of this as inevitable. I’m mainly a fan of my hyungs who I’m close with. And in the future as we continue our activities I want to get to know and become close with artists my age” he says, revealing his thoughts.
Like the others, Zelo says B.A.P’s charm is their distinct appearance. Each of the members on the team were actively involved while working on their album and tryied to show their individual colours. Because of that, they were able to release a great album and in the future, with more effort and by working harder, he hopes to show even better performances.
Unlike those who are of similar age as him, Zelo seems reliable and able to express himself freely. Embarrassed from the compliment he says while laughing “It must be because of my height” and we could feel his innocence. “Even though I am younger than the fans, please call me “oppa” (laughs). People tell me I am mature for my age. I’m thankful for those who see me in that way.’
He told us that the member he was closest to is Jongup. “Of course we are all close but I’m very close with Jongup hyung. I’m our team’s youngest member, but me and Jongup hyung both do maknae things together. If i did it alone, I think it would have been hard but doing it together is really fun. With the two of us chatting and contemplating our worries together, I think we have grown really close.”
In elementary school everyone dreamed of one day becoming an entertainer, and Zelo was one of them. He tells that his other dream was to become a soccer player, but during elementary school he became more interested in music and he started to train to become a singer.
While trying to become a singer, his parents seriously objected to it. We wondered how he was able to convince his parents. “I was living in the Mokpo area, and I was able to sing the opening song for our local cable broadcast. I skipped my tutoring and went and lined up for a contest, but I guess my parents secretly followed me. Yet my parents understood how I felt and gave me their consent. The participation fee was 20 thousand won yet my parents paid it all (laughs).”
Zelo has had a long trainee life for his young age. “At our current agency I prepared for one year, and at other places where I’ve been at I prepared for about five years. My house is in Mokpo, which is far away, so I had to take a round trip to Seoul every time. Thinking back to it now, I really don’t know how I endured it but back then it really wasn’t that difficult. I was learning how to dream and it made me happy that I could continue to dream. Of course, because everything I did back then was so crazy I think that’s how I became a member of B.A.P”
Although he is still young, we still asked him about his ideal type. “I like smart girls. Good at areas where I’m weak at. Recently, people who can speak english well, I find them as impressive. And I like a person who looks pretty when smiling.”
He doesn’t know yet because hasn’t dated anyone yet, Zelo shyly confesses. The love he receives from fans is sufficient he says smiling.
“We’ve got a long way to go. Not hastily, I want to go at a modest pace.” He says. Zelo reveals his aspirations is of wanting to gain popularity for his rapping as well as his mania dancing. While looking out for the image that he says he will put much efforts into, we also look forward to B.A.P’s future

Himchan, “I want to become an artist that can move the hearts of their fans.”

We met with B.A.P who seemed to portray sextuplets with their blond hairs. At first, we thought they were all too similar looking but meeting them individually one by one, we were able to see their own characters and charms. And in midst of them all, we were able to meet the member whose eyes remind us of the color red. That was B.A.P’s Himchan.

Despite having been tired from a previous morning schedule as our photo shoot was until late in the night, we were able to sense his passion when seeing his active side. Our interview with Himchan, who’s very free-spirited yet made sure to voice out his thoughts, began.

The member who couldn’t suppress his nervousness even on the day of their debut. “The way our member lineup was formed was in a survival-elimination format, so I would always live each and every moment uneasily. I think it wasn’t as easy as we thought in rivaling one another because of circumstances. I was always insecure whenever the company told us that there can be changes made within the member lineup anytime. However, I’m able to feel at ease now in regards to that subject. I even made my debut now.

We were able to feel his burning determination that all he had left to do now was to keep running efficiently forward. Himchan says that despite making his debut, everything still feels surreal.

In living the entertainer’s life, there’s more sacrificed than earned in comparison to other college students his age. “They say that in order to succeed, you have to lose just as much, and essentially I did have to give up a lot. First off, I can’t go to school and how hard it is meeting up with friends. Before I was in preparation to become an idol artist, I honestly thought that celebrities had it easy but experiencing it for myself, it was truly a difficult task.

He says that he gave up a lot while going through the experience. “However, I don’t think of it as upsetting. On the contrary, I was able to work harder and mature more. Our team’s cell phones were taken away. Of course, it can be difficult not having a cell phone but I feel that although it seems as if we’re being arrested of our rights, it’s beneficial towards us since those kind of distractions makes us lose our attention spans.

How did he end up down this road? “When I was in high school, my major was Korean traditional music and gained experiences in this field and that. Then coincidentally, I got to know someone who worked on this end of the industry and I gained interest once I started taking part and experiencing it for myself. At first, I said I wouldn’t do it, but I should have started preparing beforehand. So now, I’m here. I’m really happy to be a member of B.A.P.

B.A.P received lots of attention and love from many fans even prior to debut. However, Himchan says the love he receives from his fans still feel surreal. He’s highly anticipating the day that he can interact and meet with his fans personally.

During the time in preparation for making his debut with B.A.P, we heard that he got close to leader Yongguk. “I did live with Yongguk in the dorms for the longest. We would talk a lot about our personal things. One time, we practiced as us two for the whole day in the practice room and I was tired having been there all day. Even then, Yongguk said there’s a movie he had to watch no matter what so we went to the movie theaters as us two due to Yongguk dragging me along since he wanted to watch it. However, Yongguk fell asleep 5 minutes into the movie.”

He said that despite being having fun and being happy while preparing for B.A.P’s debut, it was upsetting that he wasn’t able to see his family. “I always grew up with my family and while preparing for this, it hurt my heart to be apart from my family. I didn’t get to see them once for a whole year. I do think once in a while that I miss them but I know that I’m not the only one in that situation as all the other members are separated from their families as well, so I have to endure through it and it’s not bad since I do call them.”

Himchan shyly shows his gratitude towards his mother who always monitors the programs he goes on. He said that the time he’s separated away from his family allows him to feel the importance of his family and that he’s a lot happier. Although he’s at age where sometimes he’d want to whine, but contrarily he wants to be at a stable spot as a singer and return all the favor to his parents, allowing us to feel the mature, adult vibe from him.

Himchan’s ideal is a “woman who is kindhearted and nice.” “I believe that a person’s inner self is more important than their outer appearance. People around me have said that my standards are pretty low in terms of looks, but I think that a woman who has a beautiful heart is more beautiful.”

B.A.P’s Himchan who shows his desire to become an artist that can make the hearts of his fans cry and being able to move their hearts. Bang Yong Guk, “I want to make even the underground scene mine.”

We were able to meet with rookie group B.A.P who had recently succeeded in holding their first, extravagant showcase held on January 28th, 2012. With their strong music video and garnering popularity through their song, we were curious on who they were. The first introduction was B.A.P’s leader Bang Yongguk, who holds a thick and strong voice.

Unable to hold back his various facial expressions, he always stole the attention during the photo shoot and we were able to hold an interview with him. How does he feel in achieving his dreams as he makes his debut through B.A.P?

“I promoted in 2011 before but the difference is that I’m really happy to be able to have our team B.A.P who waited for this to have made its debut in 2012. Because this was a moment we’ve anticipated a lot for, it’s still fluttering and overwhelming for us. And seeing that our promotions are establishing better than we thought it would, I’m relieved.”

From being the eldest member to the leader, his responsibilities are more than likely different than others. “I’ve always done music since I liked it ever since I was younger. So whether it’s our company or our team, I’m musically involved. I participated a lot in the music making and finding a concept. I’m always thankful for my team members following a lot into what I do and giving me strength. There are a lot of days before us and I hope to be able to show a more solidified friendship and teamwork from us.”

Before he became a trainee in his 3rd year of middle school, he’s always done Indie music. In promoting as a rapper in the underground scene, he coincidentally met with current company label-mate Untouchable and while establishing their friendship, the rest is history in him making his debut to the music industry under B.A.P.

“I’ve never had interest in anything outside of music and I still don’t, so I guess that’s why I never think that I lose out on anything. I’ve always done what I wanted and in being able to enjoy that, that’s happiness.”

Bang Yongguk is able to feel the love of his fans through SNS. He said that whenever he reads the messages his fans leave to him on Twitter, he gains strength. Although he hasn’t had the chance to meet with fans personally, he said he wants to express his love for his fans in the many opportunities that lie ahead of him.

“I’m appearing on a cable TV program right now and some people call me a ‘variety dummy.’ Oddly enough, I don’t really have anything to say and it’s just awkward for me; the staff of the show tell me to just stay as I am. Even our company tells us to win musically rather than through variety shows, however I haven’t given up just yet.”

There must be a member he’s close to if he’s living in a dorm while promoting with B.A.P as a group. “Of course I’m well and close to all the members of the group, but I’m honestly closest to Himchan. I think it’s because we’ve lived in a dorm longer together and we’re the same age, so we tend to talk more.”

There must be difficulties when having prepared for the debut. “Difficulties, of course there are a lot since I was the member of the group who trained the longest. First off, it took a long time for us to finalize the members of B.A.P.”

Bang Yongguk who doesn’t dance well because he’s a rapper. “I did get into a lot of trouble, but I put just as much effort in how much I lacked. Even if the other members would go home, I’d even cry practicing alone. I didn’t know it before, but I eventually progressed.”

He likes the word ‘prove’ because he’s the type to grit his teeth and win in the end. “I want to show the people that tell me I won’t make it or I won’t be able to as I succeed. I think when I’m able to prove myself, all the stress I have flies away.”

Who is the celebrity that fits into Bang Yongguk’s ideal? “I like a “woman with morals.” Of course, me saying that I don’t look at physical appearances is a lie, but I think it’s nice to see someone help an elder grandma or grandpa on the street despite not having a pretty face. Whether it’s someone who picks up the trash or someone who’s formal that’s truly from their heart, I think seeing that is truly beautiful.”

Bang Yongguk says that as his personal goal, he wants to become an artist who has various sides to him musically. In 2012, receiving a rookie award is his dream as well as B.A.P crossing outside the borders of Korea for B.A.P to become international artists, as we were able to feel his determination and passion from his words. We’ll be rooting for his dreams.

I can still hear the resonating cheers at the B.A.P’s stage, see the many light sticks in the showcase site, and hear the ringing whistle in my ear. Maybe this is all because of the excitement I approached it with, but I am losing sleep as if I am still dreaming a happy dream. The excessive love I am receiving is unbelievable. Not only am I, but the other members, are also happily thinking it over and thanking [fans]…There were many twists and turns in the course, in which B.A.P woke up within this difficult course. In that course, our reliable members smiled and became a force. Hello, this is Himchan.
I’m glad in being able to deliver my gratitude to you all this way.
First off, thank you to everyone who came to see B.A.P’s debut showcase.
I saw my Babies staying up all night from the day before the showcase when we were rehearsing, and I was really worried.
On the day of the showcase, when the showcase had started, seeing the 3,000+ light sticks, I thought that I was the happiest person more than anyone on Earth.
From the showcase to the first broadcast and meeting Babies~~~ In thinking of how all of these things will be awesome memories between the B.A.P members and Babies, I can’t help but form a smile on my face. Let’s make good memories continuously.
And although no one knows how the lives of all 6 members will be in the future, we will work hard in living like we do in always working hard and living right. Also, wouldn’t it be nice to live the road ahead of us with our babies?

Hello! This is Daehyun!
What I couldn't write in the album, finally I can write it here.
Although it's been some time since the showcase ended, I can still feel that day's heat (passion) and emotion in my body and heart.
That day, everyone's battle cry and applause, I can never forget for my whole life.
Especially! That whistle sound! I think it's really the best way for cheering for us. Goosebumps!
On B.A.P's showcase stage, able to be with so many BABY (fans), I think I can never be as happy as that.

Hello. After the showcase that seemed like a dream ended, I am now writing a thanks to.
January 28, our showcase. Whistle sounds and baby’s shouts, brightly shining light sticks. It was an amazing performance that I can’t forget any of them! Baby who made my dream come true!!! Thank you!
I remember the old times we practiced and worked hard to look better in front of Baby. Although we’re not perfect, I will try harder! (Fighting! haha)
We just started, so we will try to show you more sides of us you haven’t seen. Then we’ll be able to take over the world, right? Haha

Hello I’m Zelo. I couldn’t express myself usually so I’m writing this.
Although it’s late, thank you for coming to our showcase. Even though it was cold you guys came from far away and I got touched because you guys cheered for us for 1 hour. Before the showcase, I was worried but wow!! All 3000 seats taken, shaking lightsticks, and sounds of fans cheering made me realize that I was really an idol now.
